Scrum Events
The Sprint is a container for all other events. Each event in Scrum is a formal opportunity to inspect and adapt Scrum artifacts. These events are specifically designed to enable the transparency required. Failure to operate any events as prescribed results in lost opportunities to inspect and adapt. Events are used in Scrum to create regularity and to minimize the need for meetings not defined in Scrum.
Optimally, all events are held at the same time and place to reduce complexity.
By Scrum Guide
The Scrum Ceremonies or events are:
1. Daily Scrum or Daily Standup
2. Sprint Review or Sprint Demo
3. Sprint retrospective
4. Sprint Planning
Daily Scrum is timeboxed to 15 minutes. It is not a status update meeting but a place for transparency, inspection, and adaptation. This meeting is just for developers to participate anyone not a developer within that team can join but do not participate.
Sprint Review is where developers, PO, SM, Customers, Managers all meet so the developers can demo the increment that they have been working on their last sprint. The Customers can give feedback on the spot, and the PO adjusts the product backlog.
Sprint Retrospective is where all developers with PO and SM get together and retrospect on their last sprint by telling what went well, what did not go well and what to improve for the next sprint. This is an important ceremony to always improve for the next sprints.
Sprint Planning is where developers and PO get together to go over the backlog items and create user stories and a sprint goal. They will make sure to not add more user stories than their actual velocity.
